Last page of the official biography of Ernest Rutherford, established by Arthur Stewart Eve , a British physicist who had been Rutherford's colleague in Montreal and had remained his friend until his death, and validated by May Rutherford , the widow of the father of nuclear physics.

AS Eve writes:

" On the occasion of one of his discoveries, I said to him: 'You are a lucky man, Rutherford, always on the crest of the wave!'

To which he laughingly replied: "Well, I made the wave, didn't I?" and added soberly: "At least, to some extent".

Truly this wave went with him always, a fine wave, lit by the sunbeams, for he had the precious gifts of the poet: deep insight, powerful imagination, and a profound love of truth. "
